Father and 11 year old son catch 3 Metreys in 4 days at Dhipirri
1️⃣1️⃣1️⃣ and 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ on a MAGIC METREY DAY!
How good is that from 11 year old Monty Rothwell, who visited Dhipirri with his father Dave last week – and Dave also joined Dhipirri’s Metre Club with a 104cm!
But Monty took out the biggest Dhipirri Barra prize after 4 days fishing with his 111cm.
“It was a Magic Metrey Day. Thank you Dhipirri Lodge and to my guide Ryan. First I got my pb Barra 98cm then got a 100cm and then I got a monster 111cm,” Monty wrote in his recap for us.
“Dad got a Metrey on Monday at 104cm, and got got 90s today and I got another 92cm.”
Dhipirri Guide Ryan Gwynne was stoked for the youngster.
“It was awesome watching the young gun Monty work his butt off and get rewarded with three pbs in one day,” Ryan explained.
“To say the excitement levels went through the roof when the Metreys hit the deck of the boat would be an understatement! Great job buddy.”
We can’t confirm exactly what Monty said when the 111cm Dhipirri Barra hit the deck but we believe it was some variation of ‘Hooley dooley’ 🤣
These two Metreys for Monty made it 19 for the year so far as of 14 May – you can track our 2026 Metrey Count here – and with Joe Scarf’s 105cm it made 4 Metreys in 4 days across the week.
