Ian McCallum from Newcastle NSW and Fred Wehr from Gracetown WA, entered Dhipirri’s Metre Barra Club this week fishing in The Glyde River.
The pair of Metreys brings the tally for the 2025 to 6 and with such a late downpour (even now it’s still raining regularly), the rest of the Run-off in The Glyde holds great potential for more big Barra.
Fiumara was kind enough to give two mini fishing reports on Ian’s 102 and Fred’s 103 caught in May 2025.
🗣 Fiumara on Ian McCallum’s 102.
“Ian and Doug arrived that morning, so we had a window to fish about half a day on The Glyde River.
Doug hooked up first on a massive fish but it pulled the hooks at the boat… and then it started to go off.
First, Ian got a 95cm, Doug 94cm, Ian 88cm and then Doug landed a 91cm…
Then it was Ian’s turn at fighting a monster and it measured in at 102cm and both were stoked to say the least.
Ian said it was his biggest Barra… so far.
For a first day’s fishing, it was a pretty awesome session for a father and son to start their trip with.”
🗣 Fiumara on Fred Wehr’s 103.
“The story behind Fred’s 103cm almost ended the moment it began.
We were trolling in The Glyde and Fred who had just caught his first ever Barra (44cm) winds as a lefty, so his reel was set up for him, but the spare one… it was set up for a righty.
So of course it was the reel that went off and Fred was the closest to it.
So he jumped up and grabbed the rod and had to fight the biggest Barra of his life with the reel upside down and winding backwards! He was stoked and told me he’s definitely coming back.”
